The Alternatives
Switching away from coffee pods entirely and opting for ground or instant coffee is the best way to reduce your impact. But if you're still looking for pods there are now some options that are better for the planet, either by refilling and reusing, or by being made with industrially compostable materials and packaging.
Reusable Coffee Pods
Reusable pods can be refilled again and again, creating zero waste except for the coffee grounds themselves. Reusable pods are usually made from stainless steel or plastic, to ensure durability over many uses.

Compostable Coffee Pods
Compostable coffee pods are still single-use but they have a lower environmental impact across a number of areas when compared with aluminium pods. Be sure to check whether they are home compostable or if they need to be industrially composted. If they can't be composted at home you will need to put them in your kerbside compost bin for collection.
